BEMIDJI — Ekren Miller has resigned his position as head coach of the Bemidji State men's golf team after 16 seasons to accept the head coaching position at North Dakota State.
Miller took the reins of the Beavers on August 21, 2010. In his first head coaching position, the former Beaver men’s golfer led the Beavers to a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference championship, two trips to the NCAA DII Regional Tournaments and was named the NSIC Coach of the year in 2023.

During his 16 seasons at the helm, Miller led the Beavers to five top-three finishes at the NSIC Championship and mentored two individual tournament champions in Chris Swenson (2020-21) and Logan Schoepp (2024-25). He has also mentored 21 All-NSIC selections, as well as an NCAA Regional selection and the 2018 NSIC Newcomer of the Year, Ian Mackenzie-Olson.
Academically, Miller has overseen the Beavers' classroom success. His teams have earned the Golf Coaches Association of America Outstanding Academic Team Award (GPA over 3.0) in eight of the last 10 years. He has guided individuals to reach new heights in the classroom, seeing Schoepp become the first-ever CSCA Academic All-American in program history, achieving the feat twice.
Schoepp and Ben Skaar (2016-17) are the lone two BSU Men’s Golf student-athletes to earn the NSIC’s prestigious Elite 18 Award, which is awarded to the highest cumulative GPA student-athlete in the championship field. Under Miller’s leadership, over 30 student-athletes have earned NSIC All-Academic Team honors.
Miller accepts the position of men’s golf head coach at North Dakota State following the retirement of 12-year Bison head coach Steve Kennedy.
