BSU football teammates start small business during offseason

The Beltrami Bros have started a window washing business when they’re not working out with the football team.

BEMIDJI - If Bemidji residents need their windows cleaned, Bemidji State football teammates Lucas Peterson and Bart McAninch have them covered.

The redshirt freshmen call themselves the Beltrami Bros, and they’ve started a business in the offseason cleaning windows for homeowners around the Bemidji area.

The new business started with an idea from McAninch’s brother, Frank, who cleaned windows in Mankato during the high school football offseason, and suggested that McAninch do the same in Bemidji.

“It's nice to connect with the people, get faces to names with the Bemidji football and getting into the community,” McAninch said. “Just keeping it local. Maybe they'll show up to a game or something.”

“It's cool when they go around and they recognize our shirts or ask if we are students at BSU and support that,” Peterson added.

McAninch, a quarterback out of Mankato, and Peterson, a wide receiver out of Rochester, are looking to make an impression on their coaches and their community. They make it clear that football comes first, but the window washing side hustle is perfect for their busy schedules.

“It's nice to schedule our own stuff when we're available too, rather than have to go off an employer's schedule,” Peterson said. “It's just nice on the days that we know we have a lot of things, we can rest before and maybe not schedule anything that day.”

That’s the tough thing about being a football player, especially in the summer. With workouts Monday through Friday, it can be difficult to find an employer who can work with a player's schedule, which can be a struggle with fellow teammates.

“From our experience, one of our roommates has a really crazy schedule and then the other one doesn't,” Peterson said. “It just depends, really, on who you work for.”

This business not only allows them to make some extra money, but it also allows them to work out with the Beavers who stayed local in the summer and make more connections in Bemidji.

“It's nice to build connections with that team and get your face around to solidify like a spot here,” McAninch said. “So yeah, it's good to be up here with the team.”

The Beltrami Bros are looking to clean windows for the rest of the month before fall camp starts in August. They charge less than $5 a window, and can be reached at beltramibroswc@gmail.com . Readers can also call or text them at (507)-218-6115 or (507)-720-5534.

The 2025 BSU football season kicks off Aug. 28 at Michigan Tech.
