Upon arrival, firefighters discovered a 28-by-30-foot garage and a single-story house heavily involved in flames. Initial crews pulled a 1 3/4-inch preconnected attack line and began extinguishing the exterior fire.
They then shifted to interior suppression efforts in both the garage and the house, the release said. As additional crews arrived on the scene, more attack lines were deployed and crews conducted roof operations.
Firefighters performed primary and secondary searches and confirmed the building was clear of any occupants and pets.
A total of 41 firefighters and 14 pieces of equipment responded and remained on scene for about 3.5 hours. The home and its contents are believed to be a total loss.
Two firefighters were injured, treated and released at the scene.
"The fire is currently under investigation, but it seems to be accidental," the release said.
Bemidji Ambulance Service, Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office, Blackduck Fire Department, Solway Fire Department, Beltrami Electric Cooperative, Minnesota State Fire Marshal’s Office, and the American Red Cross assisted the Bemidji Fire Department at the scene.
