Centaurs go unbeaten in 6 games at Gopher Classic

The Gopher Classic was fruitful for the Bemidji American Legion baseball team, to say the least.

EXCELSIOR – The Gopher Classic was fruitful for the Bemidji American Legion baseball team, to say the least.

The Centaurs’ trip to Excelsior resulted in a 5-0-1 record in six games, including wins of 11-3 over Aberdeen, South Dakota, 12-1 over Plover, Wisconsin, 7-1 over Lakeville North, 1-0 over Manitoba and 4-1 over Excelsior, along with a 5-5 tie against Hamline.

Against Aberdeen, Fisher Ganske went 2 for 2 with a double, a triple and a pair of RBIs, along with a walk and three runs scored. Jack Lundquist also went 2 for 2 with three RBIs in the five-inning win.

Post 14 also beat Plover in five innings behind a 2 for 4 day from Stonewall Gessner, who finished with three RBIs. Jack Lundquist went 2 for 2, while Ganske and Miles Gish each doubled. Max Bahr threw a complete game, allowing one earned run on two hits with two walks and four strikeouts.

Bemidji dispatched Lakeville North behind some late-inning production. The Centaurs scored all seven runs in the fifth inning or later.

Peyton Neadeau was a factor on both sides of the field. He went 2 for 4 with two doubles and an RBI. He also threw seven innings, allowing one unearned run on five hits with 13 strikeouts. Fisher Ganske and Jack Lundquist each went 2 for 4 as well.

In Post 14’s tie with Hamline, Ganske went 2 for 4 again, this time with a triple. Lawson Berg, J.D. Wood and Lundquist also recorded hits.

No Bemidji player recorded an RBI against Manitoba, but it didn’t matter. Neadeau went 2 for 3 with a double in the 1-0 win, while Reece Dokken, Lundquist and Gish each recorded singles. Lundquist earned the win on the mound, allowing just three hits and two walks in seven innings with six strikeouts.

Bemidji concluded its Gopher Classic showing with a three-run win over Excelsior. Gish went 2 for 3 with a double, while the Centaurs picked up hits from Lundquist, Neadeau, Dokken, Wood and Kobe Brown. Gessner threw a complete game, surrendering one run on four hits with two strikeouts.
