John Edmund Erickson

July 16, 1940 – July 9, 2025
John Edmund Erickson, age 84, of Bemidji, Minnesota, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, at the Sanford Hospice House in Fargo, ND, after a life lived with adventure and devotion to family.
John was born on July 16, 1940, in Fosston, MN, and raised in Trail, MN. His early years included a two-year family adventure to Homer, Alaska, before returning to Trail, where he graduated from Gonvick High in 1958. He attended Bemidji State University and earned his degree in Accounting from Moorhead State University. During the years as he put himself through college, he was a member of the Minnesota National Guard and then the North Dakota Air National Guard. As a licensed CPA, John built a respected career in accounting and finance. He began his professional life in Minneapolis, later moving to Bemidji in 1975 to become a partner in the CPA firm Miller & McDonald. In 1995, he became CFO of Wilde Construction, which was later acquired by Mastec, Inc. He retired in 2001.
John married the love of his life, Patsy, and together they built a home—and a legacy—rooted in faith, hard work, and family. John’s passions included hunting, fishing, traveling, skiing, golfing, and cheering on the Twins and Vikings. He and Patsy spent their retirement between their home on the lake near Bemidji and warm winters in Tucson, AZ. John also enjoyed visiting “the guys” in his local coffee group in downtown Bemidji.
John is survived by his wife, Patsy; daughters Leslie (Mark) Frosaker and Dana (Darryn) Fossand; grandchildren Emily (Anthony) Nider, Alex (Josh) Bernardy, Amy (Colin) Bales, and Justin Fossand; great-granddaughter, Lucy Nider and great-grandson Thedore John Bernardy; brother Jerry Erickson; and many extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Jeanette Erickson, his nephews, Steve Erickson, Patrick DeVore, and Mitchell Swanson, his brother-in-laws, Russel Lund, Dennis Lund, Harold Borg, Gene Millam, Al DeVore, and Jack Grabow and his sister-in-laws, Carolyn Erickson, Norma DeVore, Anita Millam, Gloria Grabow, Sandra Nuccetelli, and Geraldine Swanson.
A visitation will be held at Calvary Lutheran Church in Bemidji on Monday, August 25 at 10:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM, with a reception to follow. The family would like to thank all who supported John in his final days with kindness, care, and compassion. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Greenwood Cemetery Association of Bemidji, MN, to help replant trees lost in the windstorm on June 21, 2025.
