July 16, 2015 – The Save the Carnegie Steering Committee has raised nearly $780,000 to renovate and move the library. If the $1.6 million needed for the project is raised, the building will be moved 17 feet toward Lake Bemidji and the outdoor stone and brick would be restored, as well as the windows.

25 years ago

July 16, 2000 – Moondance Jam 2000’s opening crowd of over 18,000 people set the rock festival’s one-day attendance record, according to event promoter Kathy Bieloh. The Jam is permitted by Cass County to allow 20,000 concert goers, a figure they have never come close to until this year.

50 years ago

July 16, 1975 – The city has unveiled its newest piece of firefighting equipment – a $96,000 crash fire-rescue vehicle. It will be housed at the Bemidji Municipal Airport and will be pressed into service should an airplane crash occur. Among other attributes, the vehicle can accelerate from 0-50 mph in just 35 seconds.

100 years ago

July 16, 1925 – Walter Hagen, who has twice won the British Open Championship and many tournaments in the U.S., will be in Bemidji this week to play an exhibition match of 18 holes with Joe Dahlman, Bemidji Country Club professional. Hagen is making a tour of the principal golf courses in Minnesota this summer.
