Friends of the Bemidji Public Library's 18th annual holiday gift tree raises $1,126

The Friends of the Bemidji Public Library sponsored its 18th Annual Holiday Gift Tree at the Bemidji Public Library from Nov. 22 through Dec. 28.

BEMIDJI — The Friends of the Bemidji Public Library sponsored its 18th Annual Holiday Gift Tree at the Bemidji Public Library from Nov. 22 through Dec. 28.

Donations received by the community totaled $1,126 and all proceeds were given to the Bemidji Public Library to assist them in adding to their collection, a release said.

At the Holiday Gift Tree, visitors to the library could select an ornament from the tree and designate their donation by categories, which included: Adult Fiction and Non-Fiction; Audio Books; Juvenile Non-Fiction; Best Sellers; Young Adult and more.

The Friends of the Bemidji Public Library was established in 1983 and has raised more than $200,000 for the library to date, with $15,000 raised from the Holiday Gift Tree alone.

Currently over 280 community members contribute annually to the Friends, while nearly 50 of these contributors actively volunteer their time to assist the group with fundraising efforts and other projects.

Programs the Friends have donated to at the library include: Children's Summer Reading Program, Adult Winter Reading Program, 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten Program, Books for Babies Project and Mary Harding Literacy and Friends Grant Program.
