As of Sunday morning, more than 15,000 homes and businesses remained without power in northern Minnesota from Saturday’s storms
Hours after a State of Emergency was declared for Beltrami County, the city of Bemidji followed suit in proclaiming a local emergency after severe storms devastated the town early Saturday morning.
The Beltrami County Board of Commissioners will hold a special emergency meeting at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 23, in the County Board Room to address the declaration.
When a severe thunderstorm, including winds clocked at 105 miles per hour, tore through Bemidji on Friday night and in the early hours of Saturday morning, most homes in Beltrami County lost power.
As of 7 a.m., no injuries have been reported directly related to the storm, the release said. There are widespread power outages and numerous roadways remain impassable due to debris.
Bike Bemidji's 11th annual Loop the Lake Festival, originally set for Saturday, June 21, has been canceled due to significant overnight storm damage.
