Tasha was born and raised in Fargo and some of her earliest memories are of visiting her dad, Kevin Carvell, in The Forum's newsroom where he worked as a reporter and editor in the 1970s.

Tasha graduated from Fargo Shanley and has an English degree from Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota. She spent the early years of her career working in advocacy, politics, and the travel industry in Washington, D.C., Lake Tahoe and San Francisco. She and her family — husband Nick Vaughn and son Ike — returned to North Dakota in 2015 and Tasha worked as a reporter in the newsroom at KFGO for two years before joining The Forum in 2024.
