Buena Vista Ski Area rounded out its 75th season with a special ribbon cutting and program on Saturday.
The award is presented each year and recognizes an individual who has demonstrated a long-term commitment and support of cross-country skiing in the Bemidji area.
In honor of Buena Vista’s 75th Anniversary Celebration, Mayor Jorge Prince will conduct a ribbon cutting on skis at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 8, at the ski area.
The city of Bemidji Parks and Recreation Department has teamed up with the Bemidji area Cross Country Ski Club to offer family cross-country ski lessons on Thursday, March 6.

While conditions aren’t quite ready for snowmaking as of now, plans are underway to get the Buena Vista Ski Area and its guests ready for the upcoming season, which doesn’t have an official start date yet. From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 20, Buena Vista will hold its annual Welcome to Winter open house, which includes a ski and snowboard swap and ski patrol fundraiser.
The former Olympian was still skiing in March.
Buena Vista Ski Area is set to offer their "Honor our Troops" day from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, March 7.
About five miles north of Bemidji, Movil Maze Recreation Area is a little known spot catering year round to a variety of outdoor recreation opportunities, from hiking and mountain biking to snowshoeing and cross-country skiing.
If you plan on hitting the slopes this winter at any one of Minnesota’s many ski areas and resorts, keep in mind that your visit will come with some modifications, as these recreational businesses each are taking special safety precautions to limit the spread of the coronavirus.
Buena Vista Ski Area will open for the season this weekend. Skiing and snowboarding will be available from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19 and Sunday, Dec. 20.
