DETROIT LAKES — Karley LaZella has another dazzling start under her belt.
The Bemidji High ÍáÍáÂþ» softball team’s sophomore pitcher tossed all seven innings against Detroit Lakes on Wednesday evening, giving up three hits and zero runs in an 8-0 shut out victory. She issued two walks and tallied seven strikeouts.

BHS found production up and down the batting order, as eight different batters finished the day with at least one hit. Maya Schmidt had an especially successful day, notching two RBIs, two runs, a hit and a walk in four at-bats.
Bemidji struck first in the second inning. Emma Greiner hit a ground ball and reached first base on an error, sending Ridley Hadrava home in the process. The Jacks tacked on another run in the fourth as a fly ball from Matjea Malterud sent Schmidt home.
Schmidt smacked a ground ball and reached first on an error in the fifth inning, sending Clara Sherwood home to hand the Jacks a 3-0 lead. A line-drive single from Hadrava sent Schmidt and Ava Myhre home just a couple of at-bats later.
The Lumberjacks tacked on a few more runs in the next inning. Schmidt singled and Hayden Dahl and Myhre each reached home plate. Bemidji’s final run of the day came in the seventh inning when LaZella was hit by a pitch to send Greiner home.
