A pregnant Savanna LaFontaine-Greywind left her Fargo apartment on a late summer afternoon in 2017 to help her upstairs neighbor with a sewing project. She never returned. Her body was discovered several days later, wrapped in plastic and floating in the nearby river; the baby she was carrying had been ripped from her body.

The baby, still alive, was eventually found in that upstairs apartment with the woman, Brook Crews, who had lured Savanna inside. Crews had been pretending to be pregnant, hoping to salvage her relationship with William Hoehn and was determined to provide him with a child, one way or another.

It was a gruesome crime that shocked a community and nation.
