I am beyond retirement age, and work hard everyday supporting people with disabilities — individuals who rely on Medicaid for their most basic needs.

After the recent rulings and policy decisions made by Republican leadership, I am devastated and furious. These decisions are not just political maneuvers, they are acts that directly threaten the lives and well being of the most vulnerable members of our society.

While preaching patriotism and freedom, today's Republican Party continues to strip away health care access, undermine environmental protections, and recklessly plunge our country deeper in debt — not to improve American lives, but to fund mass deportations and fuel war.

This is not conservatism, it is cruelty wrapped in the flag.
We are witnessing the rise of authoritarianism, where the needs of the poor, the disabled, and working class Americans are sacrificed to serve the interests of the powerful.

Each week, the Pioneer receives submissions from letter-writers. In hopes of easing the process and helping writers get their work published, here is a refresher on the rules regarding submissions to the Pioneer's opinion page.

I feel the weight of this injustice every day of the week, and I know I am not alone. There is absolutely no justification for investing trillions in destruction while our neighbors go without medical care, clean air, or a stable future.

This is a huge betrayal of basic human decency. We must call it like it is, and we must not stay silent. Peaceful warriors, please stand up.
