LITCHFIELD, Minn. – Two teenagers were killed late Tuesday in a crash near Litchfield, and the Minnesota State Patrol said alcohol was believed to be a contributing factor in the crash.
According to the State Patrol, the crash happened about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday when a 1998 Chevrolet pickup, driven by Benjamin L. Tate, 27, of Paynesville, was going south on state Highway 24 and apparently crossed the center line or lost control and collided head-on with a northbound 2001 Chevrolet Lumina carrying three people.

Two people in the Lumina, both from Montrose, died.
State Patrol said the driver of the car –- Travis J. Monson, 19 -- and a passenger in the car – Zachary R. Rohbeck, 16 -- were killed.
A third person in the car, Kathleen J. Prestidge, 16, of Montrose, was taken to Meeker Memorial Hospital in Litchfield with what the State Patrol described as non-life-threatening injuries.
Tate was taken to Meeker Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The State Patrol report said alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor in the crash.
Litchfield is about 30 miles east of Willmar in central Minnesota.
