Over the course of three days, marching bands from across the state will fill the streets of three local towns: Benson, Montevideo and Litchfield. All three cities are holding their judged marching band parades next week.

Meeker County Jail staff attempted life-saving measures after finding a 28-year-old man unresponsive in his cell Thursday, the sheriff reported in a news release. The man was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. There is no evidence of foul play at this time, according to Sheriff Brian Cruze.
The state of Minnesota has settled a lawsuit against Sparboe Farms, based in Litchfield. The egg producer is accused of tripling its prices in March 2020, at the start of the pandemic, when demand rose sharply. According to the state, Sparboe was not able to offer information to justify the price increases.
This year’s Princess Kay of the Milky Way comes from Litchfield and represents Meeker County. Anna Euerle, 19, was crowned Aug. 25 at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds and will serve as the goodwill ambassador for the 2,500 dairy farm families in the state. She’ll also get her head carved out of butter.
In celebration of its 100th anniversary and a two-year major expansion project of the milk processing facility in Litchfield, the First District Association sponsored a community project involving nonprofit organizations painting life-size statues of cows and calves that are now located outdoors at public and business venues. The Downtown Cowtown project culminates Aug. 26 when the statues will be auctioned off, with proceeds going to the nonprofit organizations.
Carl Henry Leaf, 18, of Grove City, and three others are facing felony charges related to an Oct. 4 Litchfield shooting allegedly borne of a revenge scheme for the victim selling or using methamphetamine with one of the defendants.
LITCHFIELD, Minn. — A shooting victim was airlifted to Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis with critical injuries following a shooting around 10:58 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 4, in Litchfield Township, Meeker County.
