MOORHEAD, Minn. — An 18-month-old boy found in a Moorhead apartment where a suspected drug dealer lived has been taken to a hospital after officials found meth in the child’s system.

Nathan Wayne Carr, 41, of Moorhead, was arrested Tuesday, June 25, on suspicion of first-degree sales of a controlled substance and child endangerment, Moorhead police said in a release.

Jasmine Janelle Mendoza, 25, who also lived in the home, was arrested on suspicion of child endangerment.

Officers searched the apartment and found 290 grams of meth, 15 grams of cocaine and $1,584, according to police. The drugs had a street value of $30,500, police said.

In the home, police found a total of three children, who were all put into protective custody. The 18-month-old initially was taken to Grand Forks for protective custody but was flown to Sanford Health after he tested positive for methamphetamine and was experiencing withdrawal symptoms.

Moorhead Police Capt. Deric Swenson did not know the ages of the two other children but said they were unharmed. Swenson said he believes Mendoza is the mother of all three children.

The relationship between Carr and Mendoza is unclear, Swenson said.
