MOORHEAD — A woman died Tuesday morning, March 12, in a crash that closed down a Moorhead intersection, police said.

The Moorhead Police Department confirmed the death Tuesday afternoon, saying in a news release that the woman crashed into a railroad support pillar at Main Avenue Southeast and 21st Street. She was driving west on the Main center median before the crash, the release said.

The crash shut down the intersection, near the east side of Minnesota State University Moorhead, for several hours.

No other vehicle was involved in the crash, and the pillar was not damaged, the release said.

Police did not identify the woman. Her body has been sent to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office in St. Paul for an autopsy, the Moorhead Police Department said.

The crash remains under investigation.

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of "staff." Often, the "staff" byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
