Sheriff's office identifies Esko motorcyclist killed in crash

The driver of a car sustained minor injuries when his vehicle collided with the motorcycle in Mahtowa Township last week

MAHTOWA TOWNSHIP, Minn. — An Esko man was killed in a crash Wednesday night when his motorcycle collided with a car at the intersection of County Roads 61 and 4.

Nicholas Berglund, 51, of Bruno, was turning his car south onto County Road 61 from County Road 4 at 9:10 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 13, when a motorcycle driven by Justin Eller, 47, traveling north on County Road 61 struck the car, according to a news release from the Carlton County Sheriff's Office.

Berglund sustained minor injuries and was treated on the scene. Neither vehicle had passengers. Eller was not wearing a helmet, the news release said.

The Sheriff's Office and Minnesota State Patrol are investigating the crash.

Life Link III, the Midwest Medical Examiner's Office, Essentia Moose Lake EMS and the Mahtowa, Blackhoof and Barnum fire departments also responded to the scene.
