ST. PAUL — A system to allow sexual assault survivors to track their rape kit in real time is now available in Minnesota.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension on Wednesday, July 13, announced that it had rolled out the program, called Track-Kit, to let a survivor monitor updates as a sexual assault evidence kit is transferred from a medical facility to a forensic lab and again when the testing is completed. Survivors are set to receive unique login and password information to review information about their sexual assault kit.

BCA officials said the real-time tracking feature is important because it can help shed light on a testing process that can be slow-moving.
“The BCA stands with Minnesota’s victim survivors," BCA Superintendent Drew Evans said. "We hope the Track-Kit system relieves uncertainty and gives comfort with the knowledge of exactly where their kit stands in the testing process."
The bureau rolled out the new tracking device over three months, beginning with the Arrowhead Region. Only sexual assault evidence kits submitted after the technology was instituted will be eligible for tracking.
