Otter Tail County child dies from accidental self-inflicted gunshot

The incident is under investigation by the sheriff’s office

OTTER TAIL COUNTY, Minn. — A 3½-year-old child died from an accidental self-inflicted gunshot that occurred in Otter Tail County on Sunday, Dec. 29, according to an Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office press release.

At approximately 5:40 p.m. Sunday, the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office was notified of the incident in Oak Valley Township, which is southeast of Deer Creek.

The child was transported to Astera Health in Wadena, and their death was announced Monday morning by the Sheriff's Office. The incident is under investigation by the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the New York Mills Police Department, Deer Creek Fire and Rescue and Wadena Ambulance at the scene.
