WILLMAR, Minn. — The Minnesota Board of Animal Health has identified another case of highly pathogenic avian influenza in Meeker County in a commercial turkey flock.
The diagnosis was confirmed Tuesday, Oct. 31. The affected flock of 32,073 birds has been quarantined.

This case marked the 12th appearance of the disease in Minnesota this October and is the fourth confirmed case in Meeker County .
Nationwide, Minnesota has the most affected birds within the past 30 days, at just over 360,000 birds.
Response zones have been established around the affected flocks. Current response zones cover most of northern Meeker and Kandiyohi counties, as well as parts of Redwood, Yellow Medicine, Stearns and Wright counties.
Farmers are asked to remain vigilant for signs of infection among their birds. This includes reviewing biosecurity measures and notifying their veterinarian if any symptoms are noticed in their flock.
According to the Minnesota Board of Animal Health, symptoms include:
- Decrease in feed or water intake
- Swelling or purple discoloration of head, eyelids, comb, wattle and hocks
- Decrease in egg production
- Sudden unexplained death
- Extreme depression
- Very quiet
- Difficulty breathing
