2 killed in head-on crash in Cass County, Minnesota

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office responded to the crash at 9:19 p.m. Thursday, May 29, in Turtle Lake Township, north of Hackensack.

WALKER — Two people died Thursday, May 29, after their vehicles collided head-on in Cass County on County Highway 65.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office responded to the crash at 9:19 p.m. in Turtle Lake Township, north of Hackensack. According to the crash report, the sheriff's office was alerted to a crash on County Highway 65 (Onigum Road), just north of County Road 153, and when deputies arrived, they found a 2009 KIA Sportage and a 2013 Dodge Avenger involved in a serious collision.

The driver of the Kia, a 61-year-old Walker man, and the driver of the Dodge, a 55-year-old Menahga woman, were pronounced dead at the scene. Passengers in the Dodge, a 46-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman, both of Walker, were treated on scene and transported via helicopters to regional hospitals for serious injuries. The report stated there were no passengers in the Kia.

Autopsies are scheduled with the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office. The crash remains under investigation with the assistance of the Minnesota State Patrol.

The Minnesota State Patrol, Walker Police Department, Walker Fire Department, North Memorial Health Ambulance and North Memorial Health Air Care assisted at the scene.

Cass County is located in northcentral Minnesota.
