DETROIT LAKES — Kenneth James Carrabou, 56, died in a garage fire on Tuesday, March 12, at 25508 Brandy Lake Road in Detroit Township, about 3 miles north of Detroit Lakes, according to a Becker County Sheriff's Office news release.
Dispatchers received a call at 5:01 p.m. reporting a fire with a possible injury. Detroit Lakes Fire Chief Mike Hanson arrived to find a two-stall detached garage fully engulfed in flames.

The news release said Carrabou had been found in the garage by a neighbor and family members. He was pulled from the garage before emergency responders arrived.
When they arrived, it was determined Carrabou suffered what appeared to be life-threatening injuries. He was transported by air to the Hennepin County Medical Center, where he later died, the news release said.
Once he received the necessary attention, Hanson said the Detroit Lakes and Audubon fire departments were able to “knock down the fire” and get it “fully under control” within 15 minutes.
Hanson said the State Fire Marshall will make the final determination of the cause of the fire, but early indications suggest it started in the back of the garage. The fire did not reach the house, he said.
