1 dead in NW Minnesota crash involving 10 people

One of the vehicles appears to be a truck similar to those used by moving companies.

Fatal Crash

UNDERWOOD, Minn. — The Minnesota State Patrol said one person died Sunday, Feb. 27, in an Otter Tail County crash that involved 10 people, including nine who were in a truck similar to those used by moving companies.

A 19-year-old woman from Barnesville, Minnesota, was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Malibu west on State Highway 210 when it collided with a 2011 Ford F650 straight truck driven by a 43-year-old Henning, Minnesota, man who was eastbound on the same road, according to the State Patrol. The vehicles crashed about 12:40 a.m. Sunday about 2 miles east of Underwood, a news release said.

The roads were icy or covered with snow, the State Patrol said.

The woman in the Malibu was alone in her vehicle, according to the release. Along with the driver of the Ford were eight passengers, including a man and woman from Vining, Minnesota, who are both 18 years old, state troopers said.

The others are from Henning: a 65-year-old woman, 46-year-old woman, 21-year-old woman, a 21-year-old man, 19-year-old man and 18-year-old man.

The truck listed as the one carrying nine people is similar to those used by moving companies. It’s unclear if all nine could have fit in the cab of the vehicle or if some were riding in the cargo portion of the truck.

Few details have been released about the incident, including the passengers' and drivers' conditions or what caused the crash. State Patrol Lt. Gordon Shank confirmed one person died in the crash but didn't say who lost their life.

More information is slated to be released Sunday evening. The crash remains under investigation, Shank said.
