Irvine Avenue bridge closed over Highway 71 in Bemidji beginning Sept. 17

BEMIDJI 鈥� Motorists traveling on Irvine Avenue north of Bemidji will encounter a bridge closure over U.S. Highway 71 as crews perform routine maintenance operations Tuesday, Sept. 17, through Wednesday, Sept. 18, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

The closure will begin after 8 a.m. Tuesday and conclude by 6 p.m. Wednesday. Motorists can expect the on and off-ramps to be open during the construction. MnDOT advises motorists to avoid distractions and drive with caution in the work zone.

Important reminders for motorists regarding work zone safety:

Slow down when approaching every work zone, then navigate through with care and caution.

Stay alert; work zones constantly change.
Watch for workers and slow-moving equipment.
Obey posted speed limits. The fine for a violation in a work zone is $300.
Minimize distractions behind the wheel.
Be patient; expect delays, especially during peak travel times.
