Hutchinson man killed in crash on Highway 212

Matthew John Strauss, 45, of Hutchinson, died in the two-vehicle crash that occurred at 9:37 a.m. Friday on U.S. Highway 212 near Tagus Avenue

COLLINS TOWNSHIP — A 45-year-old Hutchinson man died in a crash between a passenger vehicle and a semi near the intersection of U.S. Highway 212 and Tagus Avenue in Collins Township, McLeod County, reported 9:37 a.m. Friday morning.

Matthew John Strauss was driving a Saturn Aura westbound on Highway 212 when his vehicle collided with a Kenworth T600 that was traveling eastbound on Highway 212 near the intersection with Tagus Avenue.

Oscar Ivan Reyes Cruz, 39, of Willmar , was driving the Kenworth T600 and sustained non-life-threatening injuries. He did not need transportation to a medical facility.

It is unknown if Strauss was wearing a seat belt or if the airbags in his vehicle were deployed. Alcohol was not involved in the crash, and road conditions were dry.

Assisting at the scene were the McLeod County Sheriff's Office, Allina Ambulance, Brownton Fire Department, Stewart Fire Department and McLeod County Emergency Management.
