BCA investigating SWAT team 'use of force' in St. Joseph shooting

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. — The is investigating a “use-of-force” incident Wednesday night, June 21, that led to heavy police presence in east St. Joseph.

The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office reports that there is no danger to the public and they are not looking for any suspects.

A BCA official confirmed to St. Cloud Live on Thursday morning, June 22, that the investigation is focused on one or more members of the Stearns/Benton SWAT team.

The SWAT team was assisting the St. Joseph Police Department in executing a search warrant at a residence in the 200 block of Able Street East to apprehend a suspect in a threats of violence/firearm case, according to a Stearns County Sheriff's Office news release issued Wednesday night.

The exact time of the incident hasn’t been specified, and the exact condition of the injured suspect is not publicly known yet, but a full report will be publicly released after the end of a preliminary investigation.

Details about the suspect have not been released. Officers performed emergency medical treatment on the scene, and the suspect was taken to Centracare — St. Cloud Hospital on Wednesday night, according to the Sheriff's Office release.
