Jamestown Police confirm shooting death investigation

The Jamestown Police Department confirmed officers are investigating after a man was found dead at an apartment early Saturday morning.

JAMESTOWN, N.D. — Police are investigating a shooting death that happened early Saturday morning at an apartment here.

Officers were dispatched to the 300 block of 5th Avenue Northeast for a reported shooting that took place in an apartment building.

The officers who responded arrived to the apartment shortly before 1 a.m. Saturday. They found one man dead in a second-floor apartment unit.

Two men told the investigating officers they witnessed the shooting, according to Jamestown Police.

Both of those men were initially detained and told officers the man who died had shot himself.

Police then released the two men after questioning them about the incident and do not believe foul play was involved in the shooting.

The name of the man who died in the shooting is currently being witheld pending family notification.

The Stutsman County Sheriff's Office and the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation are assisting in the investigation.
