TURTLE RIVER — Owners of the Turtle River Chophouse announced on Tuesday, July 26, that the restaurant closed over the weekend because of a staffing shortage.
The Chophouse was opened in 2014 by brothers Brett and Derek Leach, who also own Bar 209 and Red Stu Breakfast Bar in downtown Bemidji. The Chophouse is located on the site of the former 71 Bar, which was destroyed by fire in 2012.

from Tuesday morning:
"It is with a heavy heart that we announce the closure of Turtle River Chophouse. Our last day of operation was Saturday, July 23. This decision was difficult, but the reason is simple: We cannot operate if we do not have enough staff.
"The hospitality industry as a whole continues to struggle in this area and we are no exception. If you know someone who is looking for a job in the restaurant world, please send them our way.
"Thank you, Bemidji, for all your years of patronage. Thank you to our incredible team who made each guest experience amazing.
"From live music to wine tastings and giant Christmas trees, the memories are beautiful and endless. We love this city."
