New Detroit Lakes-area cannabis business offers education, healing — and delivery

Tati Chase and Bubba Samuelson opened their cannabis business, The Green Hive, in fall 2023, and business has been booming in the lakes area ever since.

— A brand new business in the lakes area will deliver cannabis products directly to your door. The Green Hive, which has been operating since fall 2023, has already garnered quite the customer base with over 600 likes and 1,600 followers on Facebook.

"We've had massive growth just within the community, getting really involved with a lot of aspects in DL, within Frazee and Perham," said Tati Chase, co-owner and operator of The Green Hive alongside her business partner and boyfriend, Bubba Samuelson. "(We're) really just building those connections, and we've really just grown within the community. We've really gotten to know a lot of people that are in the area that are also in this business that we never even knew about before — just making a whole lot of connections."

Starting The Green Hive was originally a slow process. Chase remembers having conversations with Samuelson about cannabis and its medicinal purposes. Chase always felt drawn toward helping others; doing so was always her goal in life. And through these chats, she began to realize that cannabis and helping others could go hand in hand.

It was then that these conversations began to form into a business, so they got the LLC. They figured this all out in just a few weeks in August 2023, and then they were operating by early October.

"We just decided, 'We're doing this,'" Chase said. "And then we ran with it."

After acquiring a van — decorated with fake grass, green lights, bright seat covers and even a plastic skeleton named "Bob" — they were ready. Though they don't have a building, the van operates as their storefront. Customers can purchase their products online, and The Green Hive delivers the products free to any location within 50 miles of Frazee. Anything after that is a dollar per mile, but farther away customers can also just pay for shipping.

They sell a wide range of products from CBD — which doesn't contain any psychoactive THC — to Delta 8 and Delta 9 THC, which is derived from hemp. These can be purchased in the forms of tinctures, gummies, chocolate bars, beverages, salves and more.

The Green Hive also offers consultation for those unfamiliar with cannabis products.

"There's a lot of people that come to us that just have no idea; they don't know where to start," Chase said. "They don't know what to consume, which makes it really hard to walk into a store and just try to purchase something ... So our consultation service that we offer is 100% free."

For customers wanting a consultation, Chase will sit down and chat with them about their lives and what they're struggling with. From there, Chase informs customers which cannabis products would be best for their needs— whether they're struggling with physical, mental or even spiritual pain.

Because of some attached societal stigmas to cannabis usage, Chase said, their services can be as discrete as the customer would like. Customers will never need to speak with Samuelson or Chase face-to-face, and their products can be delivered directly to their door.

"I just read something today, and it's: not everyone wants to get high; a lot of people just want to get better," Chase shared. "I think that the mindset with that stigma is about just getting high, partying and having a good time — which there's a time and place for that, right? But it's also very therapeutic and very healing, and so I think what we're trying to do is just change that mindset."

Chase and Samuelson have also been posting educational content on their social media pages to teach people about the different products they sell, the properties they carry and what they're derived from.

"What I try to do is educate the public as much as I possibly can," Chase shared.
