FARGO — During the fall of 2006, 10 years after the epic winter of 1996-97, Forum Editor Matt Von Pinnon arranged a lunch meeting with WDAY Meteorologists Daryl Ritchison and me. Von Pinnon asked us to write a short blurb every day that winter, recounting the winter of 10 years before, day by day, from the first November snowfall through the end of the flood. This proved to be extremely popular, and the next spring we were asked to continue writing something about the weather for the paper each day.
Ritchison has since moved on to become the state climatologist of North Dakota. Other WDAY meteorologists have written an occasional few, but this space has been filled mostly by me. Writing WeatherTalk has been one of my favorite tasks within my work routine for the last 19 of the 40 years I have been the meteorologist here. Tomorrow's is my final column. Thanks very much for reading.
