Parker Orvik advances to Class AAA semis, 3 Jacks still alive at state tournament

ST. PAUL – Three Bemidji High ÍáÍáÂþ» boys wrestlers are still alive in their brackets at the Class AAA individual state tournament in St. Paul.
The Lumberjacks sent six boys to the state meet at the Xcel Energy Center, and half of them advanced to Saturday’s action. Leading the pack is Parker Orvik, who won both of his matches on Friday and advanced to the Class AAA semifinals at 285 pounds.

Orvik earned a 1-0 decision win over Champlin Park’s Isiah Wright in the round of 16 and a 3-0 decision victory over Eagan’s Cole Will in the quarterfinals. He will face Eden Prairie’s Will Sather in the semifinal round on Saturday.

Two Jacks suffered a loss but are still alive in the wrestleback portion of the bracket. Brody Castonguay (133) suffered a disqualification loss in the first round but rebounded to score a 7-6 decision win in the first round of wrestlebacks.
At 121 pounds, Gabe Morin won his first-round match in sudden victory, then lost in the quarterfinals. He rebounded to score a 4-3 decision win to stay alive in wrestlebacks.
Three BHS wrestlers did not advance to Saturday’s main bracket competition. Alec Newby (1-2, 152); Gavin Osborn (0-1, 127) and Nick Strand (0-1, 145) competed for Bemidji but did not place.
