GIRLS SWIMMING AND DIVING: Ryan Gaskins paces Bemidji at Border Battle

BHS was paced by a number of top-20 finishes in the swimming events.

WEST FARGO, N.D. – The Bemidji High ÍáÍáÂþ»­ girls swimming and diving team took 12th place out of 14 teams at the Border Battle in West Fargo, N.D., on Saturday.

The Lumberjacks earned 66 team points, edging out 13th-place Little Falls by two. West Fargo Sheyenne led the field with 388.5 points, while Brainerd (352.5) and Alexandria (276) rounded out the top three.

BHS was paced by a number of top-20 finishes in the swimming events. Ryan Gaskins led the way for the Jacks, taking seventh in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:51.23 and eighth in the 200 individual medley at 2:32.91. Marley Ueland (6:10.23, 15th) and Elle Wille (6:14.42, 18th) joined Gaskins among the top finishers in the 500 free.

The 200 free relay team of Kylie Donat, Wille, Gaskins and Josie Carter placed 10th with a time of 1:56.30, and Ueland notched a 17th-place finish in the 100 backstroke at 1:11.78.

Bemidji also placed a trio of divers in the top 20. Kennedy Olson took home 10th with 304.85 points, Ridley Hadrava finished 14th at 285.95 and Taylor Hanks landed 19th with a score of 177.75.

The Lumberjacks now return home for a dual meet with Warroad at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 20, at the BHS pool.
