Chloe Derby, Caleb Knott and Tanner Johnson qualify for state at Section 8-3A meet

Three runners from the Bemidji High ÍáÍáÂþ»­ cross country team have officially punched their tickets to next weekend’s Class 3A state meet at the University of Minnesota.

BRAINERD – Three runners from the Bemidji High ÍáÍáÂþ»­ cross country team have officially punched their tickets to next weekend’s Class 3A state meet at the University of Minnesota.

Chloe Derby, Caleb Knott and Tanner Johnson all qualified as individuals at the Section 8-3A championship Thursday afternoon.

The trio will compete on Saturday, Nov. 2 at Les Bolstad Golf Course.

Derby led the sixth-place Bemidji girls team with a time of 19:19.4, good for seventh place overall. The BHS girls finished with 179 points as a team, trailing fifth-place Buffalo by 55 points.

Raya Nordlund (20:47.8, 33rd), Adeline Runnigen (21:41.2, 40th), Brenalen Fredriksen-Holm (22:04.5, 48th) and Claire Story (22:06.7, 51st) rounded out the Jacks’ top-five race times. Sydney Beise (23:00.3, 57th) and Anika Sneide (23:08.0, 58th) also competed for Bemidji.

On the boys side, Knott finished in 12th place with a time of 16:53.0 to lead Bemidji runners. Johnson wound up just a few spots behind at 14th with a time of 16:54.6.

The Lumberjack boys notched fifth-place score of 107, just two points shy of fourth-place Moorhead. Blake DeWitt (17:17.2, 22nd), William Ames (17:17.4, 23rd) and Kyle Millar (17:52.8, 36th) were Bemidji’s other three scoring runners.

Daniel Scherling (17:53.5, 38th) and Deven Bentler (18:22.3, 44th) also competed.
