PEQUOT LAKES – The Bemidji High ÍáÍáÂþ» boys wrestling team is heading into Christmas after a good showing in Pequot Lakes.
The Lumberjacks took sixth place at the two-day Jackhammer Invitational with 133.5 points. Staples-Motley took first with 266.5 points.

Six BHS wrestlers placed in the top six in their individual brackets. The best finish was at 145 pounds.
Nick Strand bested the rest of the field to win the 145-pound bracket. He pinned his first two opponents before taking down Rock Ridge’s Jackson Kendall by major decision (11-0). Strand then beat Staples-Motley’s Turner Beachy by fall before handling Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial Area’s Zach Palmer by technical fall in the title match.
Oscar Hanks finished in third place at 107 pounds. Hanks fell in his third-round match before winning three straight to compete in the third-place match. He pulled out a 9-8 decision win over Sam Strack of Little Falls to claim bronze.
Nehemiah Schwinghammer also wrestled in a third-place match at 285 pounds. Schwinghammer won five consecutive matches after losing his second-round match. With third place on the line, Sauk Centre/Melrose’s Isaac Frericks beat Schwinghammer in a 7-1 decision.
Alec Newby won his fifth-place match at 172 pounds, while Casey Sisneros (127 pounds) and Gabe Morin (133) each took sixth place in their respective brackets.
