Bemidji beats Detroit Lakes in home dual behind 8 1st-place finishes

The Bemidji High ÍáÍáÂþ»­ girls swimming and diving team picked up a head-to-head win over Detroit Lakes on Tuesday.

BEMIDJI – The Bemidji High ÍáÍáÂþ»­ girls swimming and diving team picked up a head-to-head win over Detroit Lakes on Tuesday.

The Lumberjacks beat the Lakers 108-78, finishing with the fastest time in eight events. The first came in the 200-yard freestyle when Elle Wille clocked a winning mark of 2:10.30. Abby Daman then won the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:27.34. Elena Harmsen (26.93), Kylie Donat (27.53) and Josie Carter (28.67) finished in the top three positions in the 50 free.

Taylor Hanks paced the divers with a score of 178.75 before Daman got back to work in the 100 free. She won the race with a time of 58.28, followed by Harmsen (59.38) and Donat (1:01.98) in second and third place.

Wille took home the top finish in the 500-yard freestyle (5:57.80). She also raced in Bemidji’s first-place 200-yard free relay with Harmsen, Donat and Daman to a time of 1:47.71. Ryan Gaskins replaced Donat in the 400 free relay, winning with a time of 4:00.72.
