Area track and field athletes rack up state bids at Section 8A Finals

In total, between Bagley/Fosston and Northome/Kelliher/Blackduck, area athletes locked up state berths in seven events.

BEMIDJI – Ava Phrakonkham just keeps winning.

Bagley/Fosston’s accomplished track and field star is heading back to state with three more first-place finishes at the Section 8A meet. In total, between Bagley/Fosston and Northome/Kelliher/Blackduck, area athletes locked up state berths in seven events.

Phrakonkham won a pair of springs. She took first in the 100-meter dash at 12.06 seconds, then first in the 200 at 24.94. Phrakonkham also won the long jump at 17-02.5. She also anchored the 4x100-meter relay with Claire Klinhammer, Hatty Quam and Chaela Olson to a time of 50.21, good enough for first place.

Northome/Kelliher/Blackduck’s Allison Lundin took first in the girls 800 with a time of 2:21.59. N/K/B’s Colton Connell also won the 800 for the boys at 2:00.73.

Bagley/Fosston’s Charlie Capshaw rounded out the state qualifiers in the boys discus with a first-place throw of 142.11, four feet further than Roseau’s Jake Borowicz in second place.

The Class A prelims begin at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 10, at St. Michael-Albertville High ÍáÍáÂþ»­. Finals will commence at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 11.
