10 Mr. Hockey finalists, 3 finalists for top boys goalie award announced

ST. PAUL — The 10 finalists for the Mr. Hockey Award and the three finalists for the Frank Brimsek Award have been announced. The Mr. Hockey Award goes to the top player in the state of Minnesota and the Brimsek goes to the state's top goaltender.

The 10 finalists include Alex Bump of Prior Lake, Joey DelGreco of Grand Rapids, Drew Fisher of Cretin-Derham Hall, Daimon Gardner of Warroad, Dylan Godbout of Hill-Murray, Leo Gruba of Hill-Murray, Barrett Hall of Gentry Academy, Gavin Lindberg of Moorhead, Tristan Sarsland of Benilde-St. Margaret's and Max Strand of Roseau.

The 38th annual Mr. Hockey Awards Banquet will be held at 2 p.m. March 13 at the Saint Paul RiverCentre and hosted by Kirsten Krull. The banquet is sponsored by the Minnesota Wild and tickets for the event are $35. To purchase tickets or find more information, visit

The recipients are selected by a group of National Hockey League scouts, Junior scouts, coaches and media members. Both awards are presented by the Minnesota All Sports Alliance.

Bump is a senior forward who has committed to Vermont. He leads the Lakers in goals (37), assists (33) and points (70).

DelGreco is a senior forward who leads Grand Rapids in goals (25), assists (42) and points (67) in 27 games. Last year, another player from Grand Rapids — Jack Peart — won the Mr. Hockey Award.

Fisher is a senior forward who leads Cretin-Derham Hall in goals (26), assists (31) and points (57) in 26 games.

Gardner is a senior forward who leads Warroad in goals (37) and points (74) in 26 games. Gardner, who is listed at 6-foot-4 and 205 pounds, has committed to Clarkson.

Godbout is a senior forward who leads Hill-Murray in goals (26) and points (51) in 26 games. Godbout, who is listed at 5-foot-11 and 185 pounds, has committed to Wisconsin.

Gruba, who is listed at 6-2, 205 pounds, is a senior defenseman and has 10 goals and 29 points in 26 games for Hill-Murray.

Hall is a senior forward who leads Gentry in assists (29) and points (54) in 24 games.

Lindberg, a senior forward who is listed at 6-0 and 180 pounds, leads Moorhead in assists (42) and points (61) in 27 games.

Sarsland, a senior defenseman who is listed at 6-0 and 185 pounds, has 12 goals and 21 assists in 27 games for Benilde-St. Margaret's.

Strand, a senior forward, led Roseau in goals (36) and points (78) in 27 games.

Goalies from Cretin-Derham Hall, Andover, Mahtomedi up for top honor

The Frank Brimsek Award goes annually to the top senior goalie in the state of Minnesota. The three finalists for the award are Marko Belak (Cretin-Derham Hall), Austin Brauns (Andover) and Ben Dardis (Mahtomedi).

Belak is second in the state in wins (22), sixth in goals-against average (1.63) and third in save percentage (.934). He two shutouts this season for Cretin-Derham Hall.

Brauns is tied for ninth in the state in wins (18), has a .924 save percentage, a 1.75 GAA and has five shutouts for Andover.

Dardis leads the state in save percentage (.939), has 12 wins, a 2.14 GAA and three shutouts for Mahtomedi.
