ST. PAUL — The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Invasive Species Program is accepting grant applications for the management of curly-leaf pondweed, Eurasian watermilfoil, flowering rush and starry stonewort.

Invasive aquatic plants are non‐native plants that can potentially reduce native plant diversity and create recreational nuisance in lakes, a release said.

The DNR’s invasive plant management goal is to minimize harmful effects caused by invasive aquatic plants while also protecting natural resources and their use, added the release.

Invasive Aquatic Plant Management grants are available to Tribal governments, lake associations, watershed districts, cities, counties and local entities. Awards will range from $2,500 to $12,500.

Funding will be used for reimbursement of expenses incurred while conducting local aquatic invasive species management projects under invasive aquatic plant management permits.

Applicants proposing management of starry stonewort at public accesses will receive higher priority for selection, the release said.

The application deadline is 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 18.
