“Everybody has had a life that’s touched by this,” said Andrea Brodina, one of the lead organizers of the event. “It’s not hard each year to find somebody, and it’s people who you didn’t even know. … We want to support the people that are succeeding and the people that are in their journey and all of those things.”

The girls will take on Cloquet/Esko/Carlton at noon, followed by a 2 p.m. matchup between the BHS boys and St. Cloud.

The event will include raffles for items donated by local businesses, the sale of promotional items such as pom poms and stickers and a chuck-a-puck event.

In addition, Bemidji has opened an auction for , which have been and will be used for pregame warmups.

Most of the proceeds for the event will go towards the Sanford Joe Lueken Cancer Center, specifically to help create pediatric cancer treatment rooms. The money raised from chuck-a-puck will be given to an honored guest, Paxton Miller, and his family.

Previous iterations of Bemidji’s Minnesota Hockey Fights Cancer event have individually raised between $8,000 and $9,000.
