MINNEAPOLIS 鈥� It鈥檚 not uncommon for a talented St. Cloud State student to be working in the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center, and then get a job in the NHL less than two years later. Katie Emmer might be the first person to do so while holding a microphone.
Emmer, 24, who was the Gopher hockey sideline reporter for FOX Sports North last season, announced Friday on social media that she is departing Minnesota for a new position.

鈥淚t comes with mixed emotions to tell you all that I am leaving for a new adventure and a new step in my career,鈥� Emmer wrote on Twitter. 鈥淭hank you to Fox Sports North for the opportunity to cover the same teams I grew up watching as a kid, and giving me an outlet to grow.鈥�
Emmer, who is the daughter of U.S. Congressman Tom Emmer, graduated from Delano High 歪歪漫画 in 2013, and from SCSU with a degree in broadcast journalism in 2018. She got her first air time on FSN as a college senior when Hockey Day Minnesota came to St. Cloud.
鈥淲e are sad to see Katie leave,鈥� FSN General Manager Mike Dimond said. 鈥淪he left on great terms. She has a strong work ethic and is a good person. She has a very bright future and we wish her all the best.鈥�
As a student in SCSU鈥檚 renowned mass communications broadcasting program, Emmer frequently interviewed Gophers coach Bob Motzko during his time coaching the Huskies.
鈥淚t鈥檚 such a great program and we鈥檝e watched so many of them come through and blossom, then they get their first job and just keep going,鈥� Motzko said. 鈥淜atie鈥檚 going to be the latest in a long list of very talented young women who鈥檚 going to do great. It鈥檚 great to see her in hockey.鈥�
