BEMIDJI — Bemidji State women's hockey senior defender Makenna Deering was recognized by the WCHA this week for her efforts in the Beavers’ split with Minnesota State last weekend at Sanford Center.
Deering earned her first WCHA weekly accolade of the season and the second of her career when she previously earned the award on Jan. 29 of last season.

The South St. Paul native led the Beavers, scoring two goals on four shots. Deering netted both goals in Friday’s victory over the Mavericks by scoring the game’s first goal, then scored 21 seconds into overtime to propel the Beavers to their first victory since Jan. 4.
Deering is the first BSU defender to earn the weekly accolade this season and the fourth Beaver to be recognized among all positions.
She was joined by St. Cloud State’s Sofianna Sundeline (Forward), St. Thomas’ Dani Strom (Rookie) and Wisconsin’s Ava McNaughton (Goaltender) as WCHA Players of the Week
