Bemidji Youth Soccer wraps up tournament season with trio of trophies

Bemidji Youth Soccer wrapped up tournament season by adding a few more trophies to the shelf.

DETROIT LAKES — Bemidji Youth Soccer capped off tournament season by adding three more trophies to its case.

The Detroit Lakes Rotary Cup tournament featured 12 brackets for various age groups. Six of those brackets had a Bemidji Extreme team compete in the championship game. The organization ended the weekend with three cups.

The U19 boys team went 4-0 on the weekend, beating its three opponents in pool play by a combined score of 11-0 before besting Grand Rapids 5-0 in the championship game.

The U16 girls team won its championship game in dramatic fashion. After a 2-1 showing in pool play, Stella Schoonover proved to be the hero in a 1-0 championship victory. She scored with five minutes left to secure the championship.

The third trophy of the weekend came courtesy of the U14 girls team. The squad won its championship by beating a team they lost to in pool play.

The U9, U10 and U11 boys were the other teams that made it to their bracket's championship game.

The Bemidji Youth Soccer U16 girls team secured its trophy in a dramatic finish. Stella Schoonover scored the game-winning goal with five minutes left to secure the cup for her team.
