MADISON, Wis. – Just five minutes into the game, Wisconsin had a 4-0 lead over the Bemidji State women’s hockey team.
The Badgers turned a fast start into an 11-0 win to sweep the Beavers in the WCHA Quarterfinals at LaBahn Arena.

Kirsten Simms scored the first two goals, then Maggie Scannell, Finley McCarthy, Kelly Gorbatenko, Cassie Hall, Casey O’Brien and Hannah Halverson made it 8-0 by the end of the first period.
O’Brien assisted on three of the first four goals, then scored to set Wisconsin’s all-time points record. O’Brien finished with a goal and five assists and currently has 265 points over her career.
Simms completed the hat trick in the second period before UW scored twice more in the third.
Kaitlin Groess was pulled in the first period and made three saves. Lauren Mooney finished the game and made 17 saves.
Bemidji State had 30 shots on goal. Ava McNaughton made eight saves in the first period before Quinn Kuntz stopped 11 shots in each of the second and third periods.
BSU finishes its 2024-25 season with a record of 6-30-1. It graduates seniors Makenna Deering, Shelby Breiland, Kendra Fortin, Meredith Killian, Alyssa Watkins, Josie Bothun and Geno Hendrickson.
