EDINA — Bemidji State men's hockey landed a new recruit in mid-September as Edina junior captain Eddie Revenig announced his verbal commitment to play Division I hockey for the Beavers.

Revenig, a 5-foot-10 defenseman for Edina, finished up his sophomore season in 2021-22 with 12 points in 29 games and helped propel the Hornets to a consolation championship in Class AA at the Minnesota State Tournament.

The defenseman grew up in south Minneapolis and started skating around the age of 2. Revenig grew up around family members who played hockey, like his grandfather, and also went to many outdoor rinks in the area as a kid, which ignited his passion for the sport.

Around the sixth grade, Revenig made the move to Edina and has played with the Hornets ever since.

"I can beat the rush and make plays with my hockey IQ ... I'm a power play guy as well and a good lockdown defenseman too when needed," said the defender on his strengths out on the ice.

After a steady sophomore season, the Edina resident announced his verbal commitment to play D-I hockey for Bemidji State University.

"I went up there for a visit and the campus is super nice, it's right on the lake, and the facilities are unbelievable," said Revenig on his decision.

"I think they're great people and great coaches and it just felt like it was the right fit for me."

The 5-foot-10 defenseman is entering his junior season this fall with the Hornets and is currently playing in the Upper Midwest High ÍáÍáÂþ» Elite League with Team SIT Mutual Funds.

Revenig will wear a 'C' for Edina this season and says that he is very excited to take on a leadership role and is a vocal presence both out on the ice and in the locker room.

"I think I can speak for our whole team when I say that we want to win not only one, but two more state championships," said Revenig on his personal goals for his last two upcoming seasons of high school hockey.

The Edina resident is a multi-sport athlete who also excels on the tennis courts. The Hornets won the state tennis tournament as a team Eddie's freshman year, and were state runner-ups last year.

When he's not playing tennis or hockey, Revenig enjoys golfing in the summer with his friends.
