HOUGHTON, Mich. – On Dec. 13, Logan Morell scored an extra-attacker goal with 40 seconds left in regulation to tie the game for Michigan Tech.
While the Bemidji State men’s hockey team won the shootout to secure the extra point in a 2-2 tie, it was a goal that started a skid. The Beavers posted a 1-7-1 record after that shootout victory, heading into their rematch series against the Huskies on the road this weekend in a slump.

BSU won Friday night’s battle 5-3 to break out of its offensive woes. However, Saturday provided a chance to rewrite the past.
With 20 seconds left in regulation, Elias Jansson scored his third power-play goal of the game. Once again, an extra-attacker was on the ice. It was a goal that forced the Beavers and Huskies to play another overtime game.
Jackson Jutting wasn’t interested in going to a shootout.
The fifth-year senior scored three and a half minutes into the 3-on-3 session to push Bemidji State to a 6-5 win and a five-point road sweep over MTU.
There were seven power-play goals in total on Saturday.
The first came midway through the opening period off of Jansson’s stick. Alexi Syvestre tied the game three minutes later with his first career goal. Kasper Magnussen scored his first of two man-advantage tallies to give Bemidji State a 2-1 lead.
Max Koskipirtti tied the game on the power play before Noah Quinn’s second goal on the weekend regained the one-goal lead heading into the first intermission. Again, it came on the power play.

Alex Nordstrom had the lone second-period goal. He scored on a breakaway to tie the game for Michigan Tech.
Magnussen’s second put the Beavers ahead 4-3 nine and a half minutes into the second period on the power play, then Jansson scored his second power-play goal four minutes later. Jaksen Panzer scored to put BSU ahead 5-4 with three and a half minutes left in regulation.
In the four games between Bemidji State (11-15-4, 8-11-3 CCHA) and Michigan Tech (15-11-2, 11-7-2 CCHA) this season, the two teams have combined for 37 goals. In BSU’s eight games against Ferris State and St. Thomas, only 34 goals were scored between the three teams.
Bemidji State still sits in eighth place in the CCHA standings. The Beavers are on a bye next weekend before taking on Bowling Green Feb. 21-22 at the Sanford Center.
