MANKATO – Ending the regular season on a high note wasn’t in the cards for the Bemidji State men’s hockey team.

The Beavers lost 5-1 against Minnesota State on Saturday. The Mavericks scored four times in the second period to pull out their second regulation win over BSU this season.

MSU’s Jordan Power scored just under five minutes into the middle frame before Evan Murr made it 2-0 with a power-play goal two minutes later. Luc Wilson scored 80 seconds after that before Luke Ashton made it 4-0 with another man-advantage goal.

Minnesota State scored four times in eight and a half minutes, causing BSU head coach Tom Serratore to make a change in goal. Mattias Sholl stopped 18 shots before he was relieved by Raythan Robbins, who made seven saves.

Jackson Jutting ensured the Beavers would finish the regular season without being shutout, scoring a power-play goal two minutes into the third period. Wilson added an empty-net goal late in the third to make it 5-1.

Bemidji State will hit the road for Sioux Falls, South Dakota, next weekend. The Beavers finished the regular season with a CCHA record of 10-12-4 and a points percentage of .462.

Ferris State tied with Northern Michigan to match BSU’s points percentage total. However, because the Bulldogs went 3-1-0 against Bemidji State, they earned the No. 6 seed.

Minnesota State locked up the top seed last week with a sweep of Lake Superior State, which also pinned Augustana into the No. 2 seed. The Vikings will host Bemidji State in a best-of-three series starting at 7:07 p.m. on Friday night. It will be the first postseason series in Augustana’s program history.

St. Thomas swept Michigan Tech to claim the No. 3 seed and will host FSU. Bowling Green beat LSSU 5-3 on Saturday to claim the fourth and final home-ice position. The Falcons will host fifth-seeded Michigan Tech. Minnesota State will host Lake Superior State.
