MANKATO – Less than 14 minutes away from finishing Friday night in eighth place in the CCHA standings, the Bemidji State men’s hockey team found an answer.
With Ferris State and Lake Superior State – the two teams in a tie for seventh place just two points behind the Beavers – picking up regulation wins already, BSU needed a tying goal to level the score against No. 14 Minnesota State.

Jere Vaisanen fed a heads-up pass to Vince Corcoran on the power play, who then found a lane to Noah Quinn on the back door for his fifth goal this season six and a half minutes into the third period.
It was the final goal scored in the evening, resulting in a 1-1 tie officially.
Bemidji State (13-15-5, 10-11-4 CCHA), however, picked up its fourth CCHA shootout win this season. Jackson Jutting scored the winner, while goaltender Mattias Sholl stopped all three of the Mavericks’ attempts.
Sholl finished the night with 32 saves.
Kaden Bohlsen put MSU (22-8-3, 17-5-3 CCHA) ahead 1-0 two and a half minutes into the game. Luigi Benincasa sprung Bohlsen on a breakaway, who finished to put Minnesota State ahead.
As it stands, the Beavers sit alone in sixth place by one point. BSU was eliminated from home-ice contention on Friday night before its game went final, due to St. Thomas’ regulation win against Michigan Tech. Bemidji State needed all six points over MSU – and some help – to extend their season at the Sanford Center.
The Beavers will find out where they’re headed for the first round of the Mason Cup playoffs after their 6:07 p.m. game in Mankato tomorrow.
