HOUGHTON, Mich. – Coming into Friday night’s game against Michigan Tech, the Bemidji State men’s hockey team had not scored more than two goals in a game since Jan. 11.
In those six games since against Northern Michigan, St. Thomas and Ferris State, the Beavers went 1-5-0 and dropped to eighth place in the CCHA standings.

It’s safe to say BSU needed a performance like the one it had in Houghton, Mich. on Friday.
Bemidji State scored five goals from five different players in a 5-3 win over the Huskies. Noah Quinn, Eric Martin, Jere Vaisanen, Kasper Magnussen and Jake McLean each tallied a goal in the slump-busting win.
Quinn broke the scoreless tie midway through the middle frame before Martin made it 2-0 before the second intermission. After Owen Baker scored for MTU, Vaisanen retook the two-goal lead midway through the third period before Magnussen scored his fourth power-play goal to make it 4-1.
McLean’s goal put the game out of reach with nine and a half minutes left in regulation. Bemidji State scored three times in 123 seconds.
Matthew Campbell scored on the man-advantage with less than eight minutes left before Chase Pietila added another with just over two minutes remaining in regulation to make the final score more respectable.
After serving as a backup for the first time this season last Saturday against Ferris State, Mattias Sholl returned in goal to make 26 saves in the win. Ryan Manzella allowed five goals on 26 shots before Derek Mullahy entered the game in relief.
