Shelby Lindrud is a reporter with the West Central Tribune of Willmar. Her focus areas are arts and entertainment, agriculture, features writing and the Kandiyohi County Board.

She started at the Tribune in December 2015. Her focus area has been features since May 2022. Prior to that, she covered the city of Willmar and Kandiyohi County.

A 2006 graduate of the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities, Shelby first worked for the Olivia Times-Journal/Renville Star Farmer News, later the Renville County Register, in Olivia, Minnesota from July 2006 to December 2015. First she held the position as staff writer before being promoted to editor in December 2012.

Shelby has won multiple Minnesota Newspaper Association awards for both writing and photography.

She grew up in several different areas as the daughter of an active duty Air Force father. Shelby lived in Texas, Michigan and Ohio. She also lived for three years in Bitburg, Germany.

In her free time Shelby loves to read, play video games and watch her favorite movies and television shows and spend time with her family and pets. Her favorite author is J.R.R. Tolkien. She is also a baseball and hockey fan.

Arfon Mohamud has always been involved and invested in her community, both in Minnesota and in Nairobi where she grew up. Hired in late 2019 as a community nurse liaison at Kandiyohi County Public Health, Mohamud found her connections and experience to be priceless during the emerging COVID-19 pandemic.

Sergio Esquivel Torres, 34, died after suffering injuries when a boom from a concrete truck fell. Jaun Bocardo Ibanez, 20, of Litchfield, was also injured during Friday's incident and was airlifted to St. Cloud Hospital for critical injuries. According to the Meeker County Sheriff Brian Cruz, Ibanez has since been released from the hospital. The incident is under investigation.
LITCHFIELD, Minn. — A shooting victim was airlifted to Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis with critical injuries following a shooting around 10:58 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 4, in Litchfield Township, Meeker County.
WILLMAR, Minn. — Weeks after he first started experiencing symptoms, Harlan Madsen, Kandiyohi County commissioner for District 5, feels he is finally on the mend.
Kandiyohi County officials have reported thefts of road signs since August, mostly in the northeastern part of the county, including the towns of Willmar, New London and Spicer. About three dozen signs and a construction barrel were recovered this week, and the investigation is continuing.
The Kandiyohi County Board is giving a seven-day window for stolen street signs to be returned to the county. After Sept. 22 those caught taking down or in possession of signs will be prosecuted.
The Willmar City Council may soon be facing a difficult decision regarding the indoor gun range located in the basement of the Willmar City Auditorium. Due to strict lead standards, the city could have to make the range lead-free or close it all together.
